Turkey proposed regulation on seasonings or foods with seasoning characteristics

On November 15, 2024, the General Directorate of Food Safety and Control of Turkey issued Circular No. 613 proposing to develop a regulation on flavoring or food products with flavoring properties, with a comment period ending on December 9, 2024, on the draft regulation.

  

The main elements of the draft regulation include:


Definitions and terminology: the scope of the product is spices and spice-based flavored foods to which food additives are permitted, excluding food additives with flavoring properties;


List of permitted spice-based flavoring ingredients and requirements for their use;


Product labeling requirements: labels should be in Turkish with information such as product name, use "for consumption", preservation and consumption conditions, and product batch number;


Procedures for evaluation and approval of new flavoring varieties, etc.
