Ukraine amended regulatory requirements for labeling of baby food

On November 19, 2024, the State Agency for Food Safety and Consumer Services of Ukraine amended the legal requirements for the labeling of baby food, which should include:

 

(1) The age of the child who may consume such product;

 

(2) Special nutritional needs, functional conditions and/or diseases, where the use of such foods is recommended;

 

(3) Information on the method of preparation and/or use of such food, as well as warnings of risks to the health of children caused by improper preparation or storage, and, if important, methods of marking the importance of following this regulation;

 

(4) Mandatory expanded information on nutritional value, which should also include the content of each mineral (except molybdenum) and each vitamin, as well as the content of choline, inositol and carnitine;

 

(5) Information on vitamin and mineral content, expressed as a percentage of the corresponding reference consumption;

 

(6) Information on preferences for unconditional breastfeeding; In addition, labels, displays and advertisements of infant formula and subsequent feeding Infant formula must not contain the words "humanized", "maternal", "adapted" or any cognate or derivative thereof.
