On December 3, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 181 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the importation of Peruvian Brazil nuts that meet the relevant requirements is permitted.
The Peruvian Brazil nuts allowed to be imported refer to nuts for human consumption made from the mature fruits of Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa) collected from wild trees in Peru as raw materials, and made in Peru through the processing techniques of hulling, picking, drying, and so on.
Peruvian Brazil nut manufacturers exporting to China should ensure that their products comply with Chinese food safety and phytosanitary laws and regulations as well as China's national food safety standards. The production, processing and storage units of Peruvian Brazil nuts exported to China shall be recommended by the Peruvian side and registered by the Chinese side.
At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements that need to be met for importation, including packaging and labeling requirements, transportation requirements, certificate requirements and so on.
