On December 5, 2024, the Czech Ministry of Agriculture issued a number of new decrees, which will take effect from July 1, 2025. The specifics are as follows:
(1) Requires canned honey to be labeled with the country of origin, and if the honey is a mixture, all countries of origin must be indicated on the package in descending order, as well as their percentage of the mixture;
(2) The draft decree on the requirements for beverages, fermented vinegars and yeasts will introduce some new definitions for fruit juices, fruit concentrates and coconut milk. In the case of syrups, it is now necessary to use not only sugar but also other natural sweeteners;
(3) The terms marmalade and marmalade have been changed, whereas previously “marmalade” could only be used for products made from citrus fruits, “marmalade” applies to natural sweeteners, fruit pulp or mixtures of pulp of one or more fruits. The new directive allows the use of the name “marmalade” also for marmalades, which is regulated by the decree on the requirements for preserved fruits;
(4) The temperature conditions for the storage of eggs will also be adjusted to 5°C to 24°C, as opposed to the previous upper limit of 18°C;
(5) The decree on the requirements for meat, meat products and fish products establishes specific characteristics for certain meat, meat products and fish products (e.g. lamb or sausages). Voluntary labeling of products with these designations, etc., is only possible if the requirements are met.
