December 9, 2024 - The Indonesian government will ban the use of quinolone antibiotics in animal production from January 2026, according to Agribusiness Asia. There are five types of quinolone antibiotics: ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, levofloxacin, oxolinic acid and ofloxacin. The president of the Indonesian Veterinary Association called the ban a response to growing concerns about antibiotic resistance in animals and humans.
Indonesia banned the use of antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) in animal production in January 2018, followed in 2019 by a ban on the use of mucomycin. As the deadline approaches, it is expected that all stakeholders will work together to ensure a smooth transition and successful implementation of these new regulations.
