Russia released 2024 monitoring report on meat quality and safety

On December 13, 2024, the National Center for Safety of Fish and Agricultural Products of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) released its 2024 monitoring report on the quality of meat. The main elements:

  

(1) From the beginning of January to December 13, 2024, more than 13,000 studies were conducted in Russia on samples taken from 736 batches of various meat and by-products. Of these, 233 batches were Russian products;

  

(2) 36 positive results were obtained in batches of poultry, pork, beef, sheep, goat, and beef tongue weighing a total of 633.9 tons, of which 29 batches were imported and 7 batches were Russian products, for E. coli group bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella, as well as increased concentrations of residual substances of drugs and antiparasitic medicines;

  

(3) A 21.2-ton shipment of lamb from Uruguay was found to contain antiparasitic drugs, which are not allowed in the product.
