In the UK, the renewal application for sodium silver thiosulfate as a pesticide active substance was not approved and has now officially expired. This change has been reflected in the statutory register of approvals.
Although silver sodium thiosulfate has been authorized for some products in the UK, the life cycle of these products will come to an end with the end of the relevant grace period. Specifically, the grace period for sale and distribution is 6 months and the grace period for disposal, storage and use of existing stocks is 12 months. This information has been updated in the Pesticide Register.
In addition, the expiry of the approval for silver sodium thiosulfate will not currently have a direct impact on the UK Maximum Residue Limits (GB MRLs), which will remain in force unless the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) decides to take specific regulatory action. The HSE has no such plans at present, but will review the GB MRLs in line with its priority to protect consumer health.
