GACC Announcement No. 6 of 2025 (Announcement on Phytosanitary Requirements for the Importation of Bolivian Chia Seeds)

On January 7, 2025, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 5 of 2025, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of Bolivian Chia Seed that meets the relevant requirements is permitted.

 

Chia Seed referred to in this announcement refers to Gorgonio Sage (Salvia hispanica L.) seeds grown and processed in Bolivia, which are made through secondary cleaning, drying, screening, magnetic separation cleaning, metal detection and other processes.

 

Processing enterprises exporting chia seeds to China shall be registered by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side). The Bolivian National Agency for Agricultural Health and Food Safety (hereinafter referred to as the Bolivian Party) shall provide a list of relevant enterprises to the Chinese side in advance. The Chinese side shall register the enterprises after inspection or examination and will publish the list of relevant enterprises on the website of the General Administration of Customs of China.

 

At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements to be met for importation, including certificate requirements, packaging and labeling requirements.
