South Korea releases partial amendments to the Food Additives Code

 
On July 1, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2021-57, amending some of the contents of the Food Additives Code. The main contents are as follows:

1. Improve the fragrance management system to make it in line with international standards, and improve the management of fragrance substances to increase the fragrance substances that can be used internationally. Delete 4 duplicates of natural fragrance sources, add 2 internationally used natural fragrance sources, modify the common names of 3 natural fragrance sources, modify the aliases of 7 synthetic fragrances, and add 58 synthetic fragrances.

2. Increase the use standards of 16 kinds of pigments such as food coloring green No. 3 in health functional foods.

3. Provide the name, English name, scientific name, INS number and other information of 4 kinds of products such as fatty acid glycerides in the form of a table.

4. Clearly stipulate the composition specification test method for two kinds of additives such as glycerin; modify the freezing point determination method in the general test method.
