China and Russia hold video negotiations on the export of Chinese plant products to Russia

 
Russian Federation Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) reported on September 7: Rosselkhoznadzor and the General Administration of Customs of China held a video negotiations on Chinese potatoes, seeds and other plant products export to Russia.

The Russian side claimed that the Eurasian Economic Union quarantine pest, Ralstonia solanacearum, was recently detected in a batch of potatoes exported to Russia from China and notified the Chinese side. The Chinese side stated that since January 2021, they has not certified the potato products exported to Russia. The documents accompanying this batch of contaminated products are forged. The Russian side will send a copy of the documents attached to the goods and the relevant consignee information to the Chinese side to investigate the cause of the incident.

The Chinese side stated that they will submit a list of Chinese potato suppliers that meet the Russian requirements to the Rosselkhoznadzor after conducting on-site inspections of companies interested in exporting to Russia.

In addition, the Russian side pointed out that the tomato brown wrinkle fruit virus, which was included in the Eurasian Economic Union quarantine pest list on July 7, 2021 was detected in Chinese tomato products exported to Russia. The Chinese side claim that the virus is also the target of China's quarantine, and they have strengthened their supervision and control of vegetables exported to Russia.

During the negotiations, the Russian side expressed its intention to import peony roots (arbors and plants) and vegetable seeds (except genetically modified seeds) from China.
