Russian media alta.ru reported on December 1, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation has formulated a draft and submitted it to the Eurasian Economic Commission, proposing to postpone the effective date of the technical regulations on alcohol product safety to January 1, 2024.

The Russian Ministry of Finance stated that technical errors and other improprieties in the technical regulations on the alcohol product safety, which was passed in 2018, may cause problems in alcohol production. In view of the inadequate transitional period for discussion and feedback of the technical regulations for the member states of the union, it is necessary to postpone the effective date.

The Eurasian Economic Union’s Alcohol Product Safety Technical Regulations stipulate a series of mandatory requirements for alcohol products. Its effective date has been postponed from January 9, 2021 to January 1, 2022. However, some of these Provisions have aroused the dissatisfaction of some participants in the brewing industry: for example, there are differences between the definition of beer in the technical regulations and the Russian national regulatory laws.
