Russia takes mandatory identification and labelling measures for canned products

According to the Russian Federation Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) news on January 26: The Russian Government issued a draft regulation for comments, intending to adopt mandatory identification and labeling measures for canned products of animal origin, involving product categories including canned fish and seafood, canned meat, canned vegetables and fruits, and pet food, etc.

It is reported that from April 1, 2022, canned fish and seafood products will be the first to carry out mandatory identification labeling experiments. From May 1, 2022, other categories of canned products will be subject to similar experiments.

Rosselkhoznadzor supports government regulations. During the process of market supervision of canned products, Rosselkhoznadzor found a large number of counterfeit products, such as Saury caviar using cheap herring caviar counterfeit label, foreign caviar products are identified as domestic products. The above violation information was discovered by Rosselkhoznadzor during the process of analyzing the documents in the electronic veterinary certification system "Mercury". Therefore, it is necessary to fully integrate the information of the Mercury system and the "honest identification" platform, so as to purify the market more effectively.

Russia has now completed the integration of dairy products in the Mercury system and the "Honest Label" platform information.
