The Nepal Dairy Association has called upon the government to stop import of milk and dairy products, the chairman of the association said, adding that opening up of imports will lead to a decline in the performance of domestic dairy products, which have accumulated a large amount of stock due to poor marketing and overstocking, and that the dairy companies are defaulting on payments to dairy farmers. He suggested that foreign dairy products should not be allowed to enter the local market for any reason before the stock of domestically produced dairy products is eliminated, otherwise the country's dairy industry will be in crisis.

In recent years, the purchasing power of Nepali consumers is still recovering slowly, and the sales of domestic dairy products are in the doldrums. The Government of Nepal suspended the import of milk and dairy products on February 15 this year to support the domestic industry and dairy farmers, and then a large number of dairy products were smuggled across the Nepal-India border.
