At present, Vietnamese coffee has been exported to more than 80 countries and regions in the world, and the export scale ranks the second in the world, accounting for 14.2% of the world's coffee bean export share.
Coffee is one of the six products that surpass $3 billion annually among all Vietnam exports. The main export markets of Vietnam coffee are Europe, the United States, Russia, Japan and the United Kingdom. In the European market, Vietnam is the second largest coffee supplier after Brazil, with a market share of 16.1 percent in volume.
According to statistics from Vietnam's General Administration of Customs, in August, 2022, Vietnam exported 112,531 tons of coffee, earning $266 million in foreign exchange. Compared with 2021, the volume of exports decreased by 4 percent, but the value of exports increased by 13 percent.
In the first eight months of this year, coffee exports volume and exports amount were 1.2 million tons and $2.8 billion, up 11 percent and 40 percent year-on-year respectively. The average export price of coffee is $2,268 per ton.
Overall, Vietnam's coffee exports to all markets have maintained a good growth momentum. Many major markets are growing by two to three digits.
Germany was the largest export market for Vietnamese coffee in the first eight months, accounting for 12 percent of total exports, or $341 million, up 20.8 percent from a year earlier. It was followed by Belgium and Italy. In particular, Vietnamese coffee exports to Mexico increased 58-fold year-on-year in the first eight months, from $7m to $41.4m.
In terms of coffee species, Robusta coffee had the biggest volume and amount in the first seven months, up 48.7 percent and 20.1 percent to 1.01 million tonnes and US $1.99 billion respectively, accounting for 91 percent and 78 percent of Vietnam's coffee exports and exports, the ministry said.
