Vietnam will officially export the first batch of durians to China on September 17, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will jointly organize the launch ceremony with the enterprises, according to Vietnamese media.
The first batch of durians to be exported to China came from Krong Pac district, Dak Lak Province, where the durian is grown on 3,300 hectares with an annual production of 45,000-50,000 tons. Dung Thai Son import and Export Company, which was in charge of the first exports, was able to get the plantation code without a problem, and workers at the packing plant were busy around the clock sorting, labeling and packing the durians.
The Plant Protection Bureau of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference on "Vietnamese durian exports to China" on September 12, after a number of Vietnamese companies were found to be using fake codes to try to export durians to China. The meeting aims to strengthen durian quality supervision, standardize export procedures and comply with the provisions of the protocol signed by the two sides.
The durian cultivation area in Vietnam is about 85,000 hectares, but only 3,000 hectares are approved for export to China, with an annual output of 68,000 tons. A total of 51 durian plantations and 25 packing plants were approved in China, of which 26 plantations were harvested from September to November with a production of 13-14,000 tons/month. But now Vietnamese companies nationwide have registered exports of 1.3m tonnes, far exceeding the area and output of plantations approved by China.
Le Minh Hoan, Vietnam's minister of Agriculture and Rural development, said at the meeting that the export of Vietnamese durians to China must establish a sound and standardized, professional export process and comply with the protocol between the two countries. In particular, strict control should be carried out on durian planting area codes and packing factory codes approved for export to China, so as to avoid the problem of impersonating or borrowing the approved codes.
