Japan issued new requirements for organic agricultural and livestock products exported to Japan

On September 21, 2022, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan issued Circular No. 22, which sets out the requirements for post-process management, label management and management personnel certification of organic agricultural and organic livestock products exported to Japan. The details are as follows:


(1) The harvesting, transportation, sorting, preparation, washing, storage, packaging and other processes of organic agricultural products exported to Japan shall comply with the standards for the post sequence management section of Article 4 of the Agricultural Standard for Organic Products of Japan (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Announcement No. 1605, October 27, 2005);


(2) For organic livestock products exported to Japan, the standards for the management of table slaughter, dismantling, sorting, preparation, washing, storage, packaging and other processes as set out in Article 4 of the Agricultural Standard for Organic Livestock Products of Japan (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Bulletin No. 1608, 27 October 2005);


(3) Requirements for label credit rating and management personnel: the label credit rating should meet the requirements of Japan, and the production process management personnel of organic agricultural products and livestock products and foreign production process management personnel should obtain the certification technical requirements recognized by Japan. The circular requires implementation from October 1, 2022.
