Chilean wine exports rose in July with China as one of the main buyers

The latest report from the WoC, Wines of Chile (Vinos de Chile) says that in July 2022, Chile exported 5.2 million cases of wine (bottled, the same below), up 16.9% from the previous year; The export value was $154 million, up 12.8 percent year on year. However, Chilean wines sold for $29.70 a case, down 3.5% from a year earlier.

 

According to data, Chilean wine exports rose in July, led by a rise in exports of lower-priced products, the MUNDO newspaper reported. based on statistics, the volume and value of wines priced below $20 per case increased by 30% year on year. The volume and value of a case of $20 - $30 wine increased 14 percent year on year; At $30 to $40 a case, both volume and value were up about 20 percent year on year.

 

Overall, Chile exported 31.4 million cases of wine in the first seven months of this year, up 3% from a year earlier, and already more surpassed all the totality of 2021 combined, with exports of $923 million, up 2.1% from a year earlier.

Notably, Chilean wine exports to China fell 24% and 22% in July from a year earlier due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, China remains Chile's top market for wine exports value, while Brazil is the top market for Chilean wine exports volume.

 

Still, a total of 7.1 million cases of Chilean wine worth $255.8 million were shipped to China in the past 12 months (August 2021 to July 2022), accounting for 13% of Chile's total bottled wine exports. In the analysis period, it ranks second only to Brazil (14%).
