Turkey revises standards for infant formula and subsequent formula

On 30 October 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey issued Notice 2022/15, revising the standards for infant formula and subsequent formula. Major revisions are as follows:


(1) Infant formula made from protein hydrolysates. Protein content, protein sources: specific requirements for protein content, protein denaturation and maximum ash content in whey protein (63% isolated whey protein, dry matter containing at least 95% protein, protein denaturation less than 70%, no casein glycomacropeptide, maximum ash content of 3%;) ; Protein processing (hydrolysis at 80°C to 100°C for 3 -10 minutes); Content requirements for e ssential amino acids and semi-essential amino acids and L-carnitine ;

(2) Subsequent formula produced from protein hydrolysates. Whey protein in milk. Protein content, protein sources, processing; Essential and semi-essential amino acids and L-carnitine content.


(3) Revise Annex 3, 4 and 5: Table of essential and semi-essential amino acids in breast milk. The announcement shall take effect from the date of promulgation.
