First Panamanian sea cucumber culture company has caught its first batch for export to the Chinese market

Pana Sea Global, the first sea cucumber culture company in Panama, recently finished its research on fattening and harvesting sea cucumbers and caught the first batch, which it hopes to export to the Chinese market.

According to a report by "anpanama" on December 4, Pana Sea Global received an investment of about $3.5 million and has created 50 jobs. When farming sea cucumbers, companies need to designate a controlled area to protect their growing environment, according to the report. This is especially true if the breeding area is a bay, rather than an inland pond.

Pana Sea Global's production method, known as “granjas de mar”, takes advantage of coastal characteristics to grow lab-grown sea cucumber seedlings into adults. This technology can be adapted to most of the coastal areas of Panama, minimizing threats such as disease, improving environmental benefits and providing diverse employment opportunities in the coastal areas of the province of Colón, especially in Puerto Lindo, where Pana Sea Global's sea cucumber farming operations are based.

David Grossman, president of Pana Sea Global, stressed that sea cucumbers are popular with Chinese consumers and that Panamanian sea cucumbers are also being acquired by the company's partners in China. Sea cucumbers have many benefits for the human body, not only can be made into food, but also can be made into medicine, its market demand is very stable.

Augusto Valderrama, Panama's minister of Agricultural Development of Panama, said China is an important market for Panama. The two countries have signed a series of agreements, and Panama is exporting beef, pineapples and coffee to the Chinese market. Panama hopes to strengthen bilateral trade relations with China by exporting sea cucumbers.
