Iran will increase its supply of shrimp products to China once the price of shrimp improves, said Hossein Hosseini, head of Iran's fisheries organization.
In the year ending by March of the Iranian calendar, Iranian shrimp exports to China exceeded 32,000 tons, accounting for more than 56 percent of Iran's total shrimp production in the same period.
In this year, Iranian shrimp exports went to Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman. Hossein Hosseini expects a significant increase in shrimp exports to China this year and plans to increase shrimp exports to 160,000 tons annually by 2025.
In recent years, Iran has encouraged increased exports of food and agricultural products to diversify its economy away from crude oil revenues. Experts say the policy has clearly paid off, with exports helping Iran offset the impact of U.S. sanctions targeting its oil exports.
