On 29 November 2022, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) released draft quality standards for edible vegetable oils, with a feedback period until 23 December 2022. The main contents of the draft are:

(1) Scope of application, all edible vegetable oils other than olive oil and olive pomace produced and sold in Spain;

(2) Sensory and physicochemical properties of the vegetable oils involved (including unrefined and refined oil);

(3) Label requirements: the name of the product must include the plant species from which the vegetable oil comes, the label of blended vegetable oil must indicate that it is blended vegetable oil, and the characteristics that the relevant specific product name should meet, such as the oleic acid content of the seed variety used in "high oleic sunflower oil" should be less than 75% of the total fatty acid content.
