According to the Algérie Presse Service, on December 8, 2022, the Minister of Fisheries, answering a question from parliamentarian, announced that the quota of tuna for the 2023 fishing season will be increased to 2,023 tons, compared to 1,650 tons in 2022. The decision was taken at the most recent meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas in Portugal in November.

The fishery output of Algeria reached 97,500 tons in 2021 and 116,000 tons in 2022, an increase of 19 percent. Per capita consumption in Algeria increased from 2.93 kg in 2021 to 3.26 kg in 2022. At present, due to the old equipment of fishing vessels and the depletion of offshore fishery resources, the fishery production is low and the price is high in Algeria.
