On December 2, 2022, the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (OSAV) released a report on improving the effectiveness of nutrition scores on food nutrition labels. Nutri-Score food labels are voluntary in Switzerland. The use of rating scale from A to E to inform consumers of the nutritional content of products clearly and this system has been supported by the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) since 2019. From then, 70 manufacturers and retailers across Switzerland have initiated the introduction of nutrition scores. The report says several things should be done to improve the effectiveness of nutrition scores:
(1) Promote the use of Nutri-Score food labels. Till now, only a few enterprises have labeled Nutri-Score food labels;
(2) Let consumers know about Nutri-Score;
(3) Nutri-Score is simple and intuitive to a certain extent. However, Nutri-Score does not give an absolute rating and does not represent nutritional recommendations to help customers make healthier choices when shopping and to help compare similar products with each other;
(4) Let consumers accept the use of Nutri-Score. Consumers pay lots of attention on health, and Nutri-Score helps consumers to understand the nutrition content and the relationship between nutrition and health.
