EAEU publishes amendments to technical regulations on food safety

Eurasian Economic Union Regulation Center News on December 27: The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission issued Resolution No. 173 on the same day: Announcement of TR CU 021/2011 "Food Safety" Technical Regulation Amendment, involving amendments to product standards and other content of chocolate and its products, and cocoa products, the reference information is as follows:


1) It is clear that the scope of chocolate products includes bitter chocolate, dark chocolate, pure chocolate, sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, sandwich chocolate and chocolate powder, etc.; cocoa products include cocoa powder, cocoa butter and cocoa cake, etc.;


2) Stipulate the requirements for the use of raw materials for chocolate products. For example, the use of vegetable fat is not allowed in principle, and the use of animal fats other than milk fat is not allowed, but the use of cocoa butter equivalents and/or SOS-type cocoa butter improvers is allowed. The content of similar ingredients in chocolate shall not exceed 5%;


3) Stipulate the product standards of chocolate products, such as the cocoa solids in the product shall not be less than 35%, etc.;


4) Specifies the identification requirements and standards for different types of chocolate products such as bitter chocolate, dark chocolate, sweet chocolate, etc.;


5) Requirements for indicators of microorganisms such as coliform bacteria and mold for some chocolate products have been revised.

 

The amendment will come into force on July 25, 2023.
