Australia proposed revisions to biosecurity risks associated with dairy products for human consumption

On January 31, 2023, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued a consultation document to revise the biosecurity risks associated with dairy products for human consumption. Feedback period ends March 31, 2023.


The main contents are as follows:


(1) Expanded risk management measures for countries not recognized by the Australian Department of Health as free from foot-and-mouth disease or lumpy skin disease or sheep pox;

(2) Add small ruminant plague virus risk management measures to imported dairy products (except cheese) from sheep or goats;

(3) Butter is no longer considered separately from other dairy products.
