On April 6, 2023, the British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the British Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) jointly emphasized the valadity of the import of animals and animal products (including animal-derived food) to the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Contents include:

Competent authorities in EU and non-EU countries must provide a health certificate to exporters of animals and animal products to Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

The model health certificates cover all of the import requirements for animals and animal products in Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

Competent authorities must create their own official documents for exporters which should include all the information on the model certificates. They should not directly copy the versions provided on GOV.UK.

Any consignments into Great Britain will be considered non-compliant and will be rejected if they have a model certificate that is dated 1 April 2023 or later and shows the ‘model certificate only’ watermark.

Canada, New Zealand and the United States have bilateral model health certificates with Great Britain for some animals or animal products.
