Chilean fruit export big data in 2022: China is the largest buyer of cherries

According to the latest report of the Chilean Office of Agricultural Research and Policy (Odepa), in 2022, Chile’s total fruit exports will be US$7.44 billion (FOB, the same below), a year-on-year decrease of 0.4%; the total export volume will be 3.44 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.6% %.


According to the Chilean SimFruit website, 68.4% of total exports are fresh fruits, 22.9% are processed fruits (juices, oils, preserves, frozen fruits, dehydrated fruits), and 8.7% are nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, etc.).


· Cherries are the most exported fresh fruit

In 2022, Chile's fresh fruit export value will be US$5.085 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 4.7%; the export volume will be 2.615 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%.


In terms of export value, among the fresh fruits exported by Chile, cherries ranked first, with an export value of 2.13 billion US dollars (+17.3%) and an export volume of 397,000 tons (+18.1%), of which 90.1% were shipped to China;


Table grapes ranked second, with an export value of 872 million US dollars (-5.1%) and an export volume of 606,000 tons (+15.4%), mainly to the United States (50%) and China (12%);


Apples ranked third, with an export value of 518 million US dollars (-15.7%) and an export volume of 602,400 tons (-6.4%), mainly shipped to Colombia (14%), the United States (12%) and Brazil (10%);


Blueberries ranked fourth, with an export value of 429 million US dollars (-26.1%) and an export volume of 105,400 tons (-6.6%), mainly to the United States (46%), the Netherlands (20%) and the United Kingdom (9%);


The above four varieties, together with avocados, will be Chile's fifth main fresh fruit export in 2022, accounting for 82.1% of Chile's total fresh fruit exports last year.

 

· Among processed fruits,dehydrated prunes mainly flow to China

In 2022, Chile's processed fruit exports will reach US$1.706 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.1%; the export volume will reach 670,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.7%.


In terms of export value, frozen fruit (31.7%), dehydrated fruit (26.9%), candied fruit (21.6%), fruit juice (15.1%) and fruit oil (4.7%) are ranked in descending order. Compared with 2021, all the above categories of processed fruit exports have increased, especially candied fruit, which has increased by 39%, and dehydrated products and fruit oils have increased by more than 20% year-on-year.


In addition, products with higher export value in each category are as follows:


Frozen fruit: berries, including blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, with export values of US$179 million, US$129 million, US$95.2 million and US$54.2 million, mainly to the United States, Canada and Australia;


Dehydrated fruits: dehydrated prunes and dehydrated grapes, the export value is 257 million US dollars and 129 million US dollars respectively. Dehydrated prune mainly flows to China and Mexico, and dehydrated grapes mainly flow to the United States and Peru;


Candied fruit: peaches and apples, with exports valued at US$119 million and US$74.6 million respectively, mainly to Mexico and the United States;


Juice: grape juice and apple juice, the export value is 88.4 million US dollars and 86.9 million US dollars respectively, grape juice mainly flows to Japan and South Korea, and apple juice mainly flows to the United States and Mexico;


Fruit oils: olive oil, with an export value of US$79.8 million, mainly to Brazil and the United States.


· Chilean dried fruit exports are mainly shelled walnuts

In 2022, the export value of Chilean dried fruits will reach US$648 million, a year-on-year decrease of 4.4%; the export volume will reach 153,400 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%.


In terms of export value, the main variety of dried fruit exported by Chile is shelled walnuts, with an export value of 262 million US dollars and an export volume of 90,500 tons, accounting for 40.3% of Chile's total nut exports, mainly shipped to Turkey (32.7%) and India (24.2%) ;


Shellless walnuts ranked second, with an export value of 213 million US dollars and an export volume of 34,900 tons, accounting for 32.9% of the total nut exports, mainly to Germany (21.4%), Spain (13.4%) and Italy (10.3%);


Shelled hazelnuts ranked third, with an export value of 120 million US dollars and an export volume of 17,300 tons, accounting for 18.6% of the total nut exports, mainly shipped to Italy (53.4%) and Germany (17.2%).
