On May 4, 2023, the Peruvian National Institute of Quality issued the technical standard for the labeling of trans fatty acids in packaged foods, which stipulates the appropriate way to record information on the content of trans fatty acids (TFA) on packaged food labels. The main contents are as follows:

(1) Trans fatty acid content shall be expressed as "trans fat", "trans fatty acid" or "TFA".

(2) If the product has nutritional information, the quantity statement must be recorded on a separate line after the saturated fatty acid content.

(3) Regarding the content of trans fatty acids in food, it must be expressed in grams per 100 grams, 100 milliliters or per package. Additionally, if the number of servings contained in the package is declared, this information may be provided either by the quantified portion on the label or by the serving size.

(4) In order to show a nutritional claim (nutritional information), the total value of AGT (natural and industrial sources) must be reported.

(5) If there is no nutritional information on the label, the content of trans fatty acids should be indicated at the end of the ingredient list.

(6) For advertising warning purposes, if an AGT value of 0 is stated on the label, it is rounded to mean no trans fatty acids.

The above standards come into effect on the date of issue.
