On May 7, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued a proposal to formulate customs clearance requirements for imported food. Main contents:
(1) Definitions and terms;
(2) Mandatory general requirements for food customs clearance. imported food must comply with relevant technical regulations and circulars; importers must be registered; stored in licensed warehouses; submit general mandatory documents for food customs clearance (copy of customs declaration, copy of certificate of origin, copy of commercial invoice, copy of packing list, bill of lading Copies of health certificates (copies of phytosanitary certificates should also be submitted for grains and vegetables), copies of import licenses for poultry meat and products, fish and other aquatic products, edible eggs and products, etc.); food imported for personal use and scientific research Samples (submit import license), samples not sold in the market (products must be labeled with "free samples" and the importer promises), food raw materials for domestic production (labels can be in English but must be consistent with Arabic data and published formats).
The proposal comment period ends on June 7.
