Survey: Potatoes, dumplings and pastries are childhood favorites for Russians

SPUTNIK, Moscow, June 1-- According to the joint research of the Sbermarket and rusopros institutions, the dishes that Russians like since childhood are potatoes, dumplings and pastries, and meat pies and candied stews are the most memorable dishes since their school days. 1500 people participated in the survey.


According to the study, Russians said their favorite childhood dishes included potatoes (60.5%), pastries (55.7%) and dumplings (54.6%). Macaroni was more popular than grains such as buckwheat or rice (35.2 percent versus 17.8 percent). Respondents under 35 are particularly fond of sandwiches (45.1%).


Today's parents say that in addition to potatoes, dumplings and pasta, their children also like to eat meat, meatloaf, waffles and pancakes among homemade foods, while vegetables and fish are the least popular.


The study added that the most commonly bought snacks for Russians in childhood were ice cream (84%), candy and chocolate (72.5%), fruit (61.9%), lollipops and chewing gum (57.6%), soda (55.5%) %). The most popular of these are ice cream (29.3% of respondents), chocolate eggs (13.1%) and chocolate (12.7%).


At the same time, today's parents mainly buy ice cream, fruit, juice and yogurt for their children as snacks.

As for the dishes on the school menu, Russians like meat pies, candied fruit and baked puddings the most. Soup and porridge, especially bulgur porridge, are the least popular.
