On June 8, 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) revised the canned fruit standards, which will come into effect on the date of publication. Main contents:
Canned peaches and pears for further processing can be fresh, frozen or aseptically packaged;
Natural spices can be added to improve or increase the natural flavor of the product;
Ascorbic acid or citric acid may be added; unlabeled blank metal cans must be used.
