The Cambodian General Administration of Customs told the media on the June 11  that in the first five months of 2023, the trade volume between Cambodia and China will reach US$5.075 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.7%.

In the past May, wild aquatic products became Cambodia's second agricultural product approved to be exported to China this year after pepper. More and more local products are allowed to be exported to China, which will boost the bilateral trade volume between Cambodia and China.

According to information from the Cambodian General Administration of Customs, in the first five months of this year, Cambodia achieved an international trade volume of US$19.283 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 13.9%. However, Cambodia's export trade volume to China was US$588 million, a year-on-year increase of 13.3%; Cambodia's import trade volume from China was US$4.487 billion, a slight increase of 0.4% year-on-year.

China is Cambodia's largest source of foreign direct investment. By the end of 2022, Chinese companies have invested more than US$10 billion in Cambodia.

At present, China has become the main export market of Cambodian rice, bananas, mangoes and longan. In a village more than 160 kilometers away from Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, a 600-hectare orchard is full of lush banana trees. A person in charge said that the orchard exports 2,000 containers of bananas to China every year. "A container holds about 20 tons of cargo, and you can see that this figure is huge. Cambodian bananas are very popular in China!"

At the end of May this year, 12 kinds of wild aquatic products from Cambodia, including wild shrimp, wild fish, wild eel, and wild snails, have completed the export process to China. Officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries expressed the belief that wild aquatic products from Cambodia will also be welcomed by Chinese consumers. "This will not only increase the trade volume between Cambodia and China, but also help improve the lives of our farmers."

In addition, a Chinese company plans to export "honey pineapple" and pineapple products from Siampo County, Stung Treng Province to the Chinese market.

According to the owner of honey pineapples, Seben Leze Calona, a Chinese company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with him to export honey pineapples, pineapple wine, and pineapple juice to the Chinese market.

He said that the Chinese company promised to promote Cambodian pineapples to other Chinese companies so that they can better understand the quality of Cambodian pineapples.
