According to news from SeafoodMedia on June 22, in the fiscal year 2022-2023, India exported 1,735,286 tons of seafood, with an export value of 8.09 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 26.73% and 4.31% respectively. Both the export volume and export value are the highest in history.
The United States is the largest exporter of Indian seafood, followed by China, the European Union, Southeast Asia, Japan and the Middle East. Frozen shrimp is the main export product, and the United States and China are the main buyers.
India's frozen shrimp exports amounted to US$5.481 billion, accounting for 67.72% of total exports and 40.98% of total exports. During this period, if the export revenue of Indian shrimp was calculated in rupees, the increase was only 1.01%.
In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the export volume of frozen shrimp in India is 711,099 tons, of which, the export volume to the United States is 275,662 tons, the export volume to China is 145,743 tons, the export volume to the EU is 95,377 tons, and the export volume to Southeast Asia The export volume to Japan was 65,466 tons, the export volume to Japan was 40,975 tons, and the export volume to the Middle East was 31,647 tons.
The export volume of Indian black tiger shrimp increased by 74.06% to 31,213 tons, and the export revenue was 256.471 billion rupees (about 321 million U.S. dollars). The export revenue increased by 68.64% in US dollars and 55.41% in rupees.
Japan is the largest export market for Indian black tiger shrimp, accounting for 25.38% of exports, followed by the European Union (25.12%) and the United States (14.90%). Compared with the previous fiscal year, the export value of vannamei from India decreased from US$5.234 billion to US$4.809 billion this fiscal year.
Frozen fish is the second largest export product, with an export revenue of 5.503 billion rupees, an increase of 62.65% in export volume, and a year-on-year increase of 45.73% in terms of rupees.
The accumulative export revenue of other exported seafood products is 658 million US dollars, and the export revenue of some products is: the export value of surimi is 253 million US dollars; the export value of frozen octopus is 91.74 million US dollars; the export value of surimi products is 70.35 million US dollars; the export value of canned products is 41.56 million US dollars; frozen lobster exports 27 million US dollars.
The export value of India's frozen squid was 454 million US dollars, the export value of dried fish and shrimp products was 384 million US dollars, and the export value of frozen cuttlefish was 295 million US dollars.
The top five export markets for Indian seafood are the United States, China, the European Union, Southeast Asia and Japan, with China jumping to the second place.
In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the export volume of Indian seafood to China was 405,547 tons, with an export value of 1.508 billion US dollars, accounting for 23.37% and 18.64% of the total export trade respectively. In terms of volume, the export volume increased by 51.09% year-on-year. Revenue increased by 32.02% year-on-year.
Indian frozen shrimp is the main product supplied to China, followed by frozen fish.
