Turkey published date labeling guidelines on pre-packaged food labels

On June 21, 2023, the General Directorate of Food Safety and Control of Turkey issued a circular on the labelling guidelines for pre-packaged food.

 

The main contents include terms and definitions, principles for setting the production date and shelf life of prepackaged foods, influencing factors and calculation methods, general requirements for date labeling (non-changeable, easy to view, word color and label background color should be contrasted, etc.), products and situations exempt from labeling shelf life (such as beverages with alcohol content of more than 10%, salt and other foods), and prepackaged food labels Marking format and specification requirements for dates and shelf life, marking provisions for special circumstances, etc.

 

The guidelines are a companion to Turkey's food labelling regulations and are in force from the date of publication.
