According to preliminary statistics released by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation and the Korea Customs Service (KCS) on July 4th, from January to June this year, South Korea's instant noodle exports increased by 16.4% year-on-year to 446.2 million US dollars, setting a record for the same period.
The previous record was US$383.284 million in the first half of last year. based on the first half of the year, South Korea's instant noodle exports have continued to increase since 2015, increasing from US$103.834 million in 2015 to US$302.076 million in 2020, breaking the US$400 million mark for the first time this year.
The reason is that during the spread of the new crown epidemic in recent years, the demand for instant noodles and other convenience foods has increased significantly. In addition, with the popularity of Korean cultural and creative content around the world, the world's attention to Korean products has also increased, which also drives the growth of instant noodle exports.
Although the export of instant noodles maintained a growth trend, the overall export value of agricultural and sideline products decreased by 1.4% year-on-year to US$4.4311 billion. In terms of regions, exports to the ASEAN region decreased by 7% year-on-year, and exports to the EU and the United Kingdom decreased by 6.6%.
