Denmark published guidelines on nutrition labelling

On 12 July 2023, the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries issued Bulletin 9582, the Nutrition Labelling Guidelines, which will be implemented from the date of publication. The main contents are as follows:

 

1. Scope. The nutrition labelling rules apply to infant formula and subsequent formula, processed cereals and infant foods, whole dietary substitutes for weight control and foods for special medical use;

 

2. Relevant definitions. Nutrition label, energy value;

 

3. Mandatory nutrition claims. Mandatory nutrition claims include information on energy values, fats, saturated fatty acids, carbohydrates, sugars, proteins and salts;

 

4. Optional supplemental nutrition claims. Monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, polyols, starches, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals;

 

5. Nutrition claims labeling requirements. Nutrition claims should be legible, indelible and clearly visible; Font size, language, format requirements, calculation methods, etc.; Pre-packaged foods must always provide a nutrition label, and non-pre-packaged foods may make nutrition or health claims, but nutrition labeling is not mandatory.
