On 18 July 2023, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued Circular IFNO8-23, which issued guidance on pregnancy warning labels for imported alcoholic beverages. The main contents are as follows:

1. From 31 July 2023, packaged and stand-alone alcoholic beverage products (containing more than 1.15% alcohol by volume), whether intended for or suitable for retail, will be required to comply with pregnancy warning label requirements if they are not further processed, packaged or labelled. Under this requirement, imported alcoholic beverages intended for retail sale must carry the required warning statement, unless the imported beverage carries the declaration prior to sale; Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) has developed detailed guidance material to support the labelling requirements, which is available on the FSANZ website.

2. FSANZ introduced requirements for pregnancy warning labels for alcoholic beverages on July 31, 2020, and proposed an optional alternative to pregnancy warning labels for alcoholic beverages sold in corrugated cardboard packaging (e.g., "cases of beer") on May 4, 2023. The foot ten and font size required for the warning label depends on the capacity of a single alcoholic beverage unit;

3. As required, businesses that sell or supply carton retail sprinkling (which will not be further processed, packaged or labeled) must ensure that post-press corrugated cardboard outer packaging displays an optional simple warning mark (all black, contrasting color) by February 1, 2024.
