The Philippines revised dietary nutrient standards

On September 7, 2023, the Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines issued Notice 2023-09, revising the dietary nutrient standards. Effective 15 days after publication in a general circulation newspaper and filing with the Office of the National Administrative Registry of the University of the Philippines Law Center. Main contents:

 

(1) Scope. Dietary standards for nutrients in prepackaged processed foods;

 

(2) Definitions of terms;

 

(3) General guidelines. The nutritional content of prepackaged processed foods must be declared; Recommended energy/nutrient intakes are indicated in percentage terms; Calculations of energy and nutrient levels should be based on the caloric requirements of men aged 19-29 years and children aged 6-9 years; The recommended range of cellulose for adults is 25-250 g and the upper limit of the recommended range for children is 25 g; The calculation of iron content in general population should be based on the iron value of male; Recommended sodium limits should be based on WHO guidelines for sodium intake in adults and children.
