Egyptian mangoes open the door to the Chinese market

According to Egyptian media outlets MASRAWY and Ahram Online, Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation said in a statement released on September 16 that China has signed a memorandum of understanding with Egypt to open the Chinese market to Egyptian mangoes. Egypt's Agriculture Minister El-Sayed El-Quseir met with Wang Lingjun, deputy director of China's General Administration of Customs, to discuss ways to enhance agricultural trade exchanges between the two countries and sign the memorandum of Understanding. The two sides agreed to promote the facilitation of agricultural trade and announce the opening of the Chinese market to Egyptian mangoes to importers and exporters of the two countries.

 

El-Quseir hailed the MOU as a milestone in Egyptian-China trade relations, a starting point for the two sides to announce the entry of Egyptian mangoes into the Chinese market, which will also enhance the influence of Egyptian agricultural products in the Chinese market.

Egypt is the tenth largest mango exporter in the world and has more than 30 mango varieties, among which the most popular varieties are Zebdya, Mabrouka, Sideka, Awees, Keitt, Kent, Tommy and Naomi. Mango is currently Egypt's main export fruit after citrus, exported to more than 50 countries, the main export markets include France, Germany, the Netherlands and many other European countries, as well as the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and other Arab countries. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture statistics, Egypt's mango cultivation area has exceeded 90,000 hectares, and the total annual mango exports are about 53,000 tons. The harvest of Egyptian mangoes begins in July and lasts until November.
