South Korea issued a partial amendment to the Food Additives Code to set a new composition specification of iron oxide

On September 20, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2023-60, amending part of the Food Additives Code, which reads as follows:

 

1. In order to facilitate the application of new food additives produced using microorganisms, the extended section of the microbial catalogue can be exempted from safety information.

 

2. Newly set the provisions and composition specifications of iron oxide that can be used in the production of healthy functional foods that require shading.

 

3. Expand the diluent types of mixed preparations; Expand the use of hexane: for the extraction and refining of oil components in food.

 

4. Change the CAS number of calcium citrate. Modifying the content unit of oryzol; Remove 1 duplicate synthetic flavoring substance; Modify substances with different common names and aliases in synthetic spice substances to make their names unified.

 

5. Modify the composition specification test method and general test method of 13 additives.
