Spain proposes legislation on the sale of poultry meat and eggs

On October 13, 2023, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food launched a public consultation on the application of the European Regulation on the Marketing of Poultry Meat and Eggs in Spain, from October 14, 2023 to October 28, 2023. The aim is to adopt two royal decrees for each of the above products to adapt to the European Regulations on the marketing of poultry meat and eggs.

 

The content covers such important aspects as regulating the definition and marketing name of products, the classification according to quality and size, and the conditions for voluntary and mandatory labelling. Exceptions to the general requirements related to egg labelling in the national egg marketing regulations (new labelling requirements) : including egg labelling with an optional declaration in addition to the mandatory declaration; Strengthen coordination and exchange of information between competent authorities and standardize necessary control procedures to ensure compliance with standards. 


The regulation on the sale of poultry meat is expected to increase market transparency by introducing new definitions and cuts, as well as new labelling requirements, including optional labelling. The aim is also to facilitate the coordination and exchange of information and to improve control procedures, particularly with regard to the control of moisture content in poultry meat cutting and cutting. The above regulations apply to the principles established in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the marketing of poultry and eggs and are designed to help maintain market unity, transparency and loyalty in commercial transactions, and improve the information provided to consumers.
