On November 8, 2023, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India （FSSAI） issued instructions on "best before date" for unpackaged/loose confectionery. 

Main contents: Repeal of Section 16 (5) of the Food Safety Act 2006 (issued on September 25, 2020.9.25) For unpackaged/loose confectionery, which stipulates the container/tray containing the confectionery must be marked with the "best before" date of the product. Sellers may choose to voluntarily label containers or trays of unpackaged/loose candy with the product's "best before" date.
