Itar-tass news of December 1: The mandatory digital labeling of soft drinks in Russia launched: soft drinks packaged in glass and plastic must be labeled with a digital label, with the exception of fruit juices, fruit honey, non-carbonated cold drinks and plant-based drinks.

Due to the continuous influx of illegal products in the market (accounting for about 20% of the market share), the Russian government decided to adopt digital labels for sweet drinks, aiming to reduce illegal trade, protect consumers from inferior products, and promote healthy competition in the market.

At present, 83,000 market participants have registered in the Russian digital label system, and it is estimated that the introduction of digital labels will not increase the cost of soft drinks.

The digital labeling of canned soft drinks in Russia will start on March 1, 2024, including aluminum cans; Fruit juices, honey, non-carbonated cold drinks and plant-based drinks will be digitally labeled from 1 June 2024. Soft drinks will be subject to a digital labeling experiment from June 1 to August 31, 2024.
