South Korea Revised Enforcement Rules of the Agricultural and Fishery Products Origin Labelling Act

On 8 December 2023, the National Legal Information Centre (NLIC) of Korea published on its website the revised “Enforcement Rules of the Agricultural and Fishery Products Origin Labelling Act”, which came into effect on the date of publication. Main contents:

 

(1) It was originally stipulated that the size of the letter size of the origin label of imported processed agricultural and fishery products should vary according to the surface area of the package; to reduce the burden of the relevant companies and fairness issues, it is now amended to the effect that the size of the letter size of the origin label should be at least 10-point font size, regardless of the size of the surface area of imported or domestically-produced packages;

 

(2) The location of origin labelling for products purchased online can be placed next to, above and below the product name or price, rather than labelled around the product; the font size of the origin is the same as or larger than the product name label;

 

(3) Transitional provision. imported CAGW products produced before 30 September 2024 may be marked with the country of origin as previously provided. online products may indicate the country of origin until 31 December 2023 in accordance with the previous provisions.
