On December 12, 2023, Health Canada issued document NOM/ADM-0211, which proposes to amend the list of permitted colorants to approve the use of Allura Red in fruity beer up to a maximum use level of 10 ppm.

It is understood that Allura Red is already permitted in Canada for use in non-standard alcoholic beverages, with a maximum use level of 300 ppm. The amendment will take effect from 12 December 2023.
