According to SeafoodNews on December 29, Russia may lift restrictions on fish imports from Japan.

Alexander Dvoinykh, chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Food Policy and Environmental Management of the Russian Federation Council, said that the possibility of lifting sanctions exists, but whether it will be implemented in 2024 has not yet been determined.

China, a major importer of Japanese seafood, has imposed a total ban on imports and processing of Japanese seafood since Aug. 24, when seawater used to cool reactors at the Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant was released into the ocean.

From October 16, Russia's Rosselkhoznadzor joined China's temporary restrictions on imports of fish and other seafood from Japan as a precautionary measure.
