Switzerland amends regulations on contaminants in food

On 29 December 2023, the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affaires (FDHA) issued Notice AS2023847 amending the Regulations on contaminants in food, which will come into force on 1 February 2024. The main contents are as follows:

 

(1) To establish the limits of perchlorate, zearalenone and other contaminants in some foods; Food products produced in accordance with the original perchlorate limits may be imported until 31 January 2025 and may be sold to consumers until they are sold out;

 

(2) To establish the maximum limit standards for perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food. Until July 31, 2024, food products that do not meet the maximum levels of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) can still be imported and manufactured, and can be sold to consumers until they are sold out. Specific partial limit standards are shown in the table below.
