Turkey proposed to establish inbound and outbound phytosanitary regulations

On May 28, 2024, the General Directorate of Food Safety and Control (GDFSC) of Turkey issued Circular No. 568 on the proposed development of entry and exit phytosanitary regulations.

 

The main contents of the regulation include the scope of jurisdiction (inbound, outbound and transit plants and their products, including food of plant origin, raw materials of plant origin for industrial use, timber, herbs, propagation materials, etc.), definitions and terminology, requirements for declaration of inbound and outbound plants and their products, official quarantine procedures, sampling and analysis requirements, requirements for issuance of phytosanitary certificates for outbound products, registration and approval requirements for manufacturers of inbound products and their countries of origin, and requirements for phytosanitary certificates for inbound products. and approval requirements, key points for the audit and verification of phytosanitary certificates for inbound products, circumstances and subsequent disposal requirements for inbound and outbound unqualified plants and their products, penalties, etc. The annex to the regulations also lists the categories of products that must be accompanied by official phytosanitary certificates of the country of origin upon entry into the country of origin, including fresh, chilled or frozen vegetables, shelled or un-shelled nuts, hops, grounded or ungrounded spices of plant origin, raw coffee beans, cocoa beans, etc.
