On June 19, 2024, the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) approved one genetically modified (GM) maize and two processing aids based on GM strains of bacteria. One of the GM maize approved for food, DP910521, was developed by Corteva and combines glufosinate ammonium tolerance and resistance to lepidopteran pests through the expression of Cry1B.34 and PAT proteins, and was previously approved for food in Japan and Brazil, and for food and feed in the United States and Colombia.
The Bacillus subtilis protease containing genetically modified Bacillus subtilis was developed by Denise Australia and is primarily used to hydrolyze proteins.
2'-Fucose-based lactose containing genetically modified Corynebacterium glutamicum was developed by Advanced Protein Technologies, Inc. in the United States, primarily for use in infant formula products.
