Case study | Selling unauthentic weight loss capsules via Wechat

Between 2016 and 2018, the two Wechat salesmen, Li and Liu, purchased a large amount of “weight loss capsules” (products with no date marking, no manufacturer information and no production license number) at a low price, and filled the product and labelled by themselves. It has been tested that the abovementioned products contained Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein, which are prohibited to be added into foods (including health foods).

The court ruled that the two Wechat salesmen shall apologise to the public, and shall pay more than RMB 610,000 for the public interest losses.
